Me too Tara! I used to think that I was doing something wrong when life was still difficult. So life became my problem and I became overwhelmed at trying to make my world "perfect". Understanding that my goal wasn't to make my world perfect but to learn how to let life unfold and happen AND BE OK -- huge!
Life is just like the baseball game called Flies and Grounders that my whole big extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, parents, grandparents used to play. Every once in a great while I would get hit by the ball and get a bloody nose but within 10 minutes, I was right back out there playing.
The game of life is the same way. You just have to keep getting back out there and playing even when something comes along and knocks the breath out of you for awhile. You keep playing. Today I have all the tools that I need to win the game.
The thing for me as hailing from dysfunction/abuse/neglect is that I didn't know the rules of the game in a healthy way and when I got hit I didn't know how to keep moving forward because I'd been conditioned to believe no matter what I did - was wrong.
Understanding that this journey was not about "doing it right" but learning how to be ok in spite of the curve balls and how to keep playing instead of feeling like I always had 3 strikes against me was key!
Yay for learning that the game of life is often about knowing how to keep playing!
